Dance Unlimited is and has always been known in the Edmonton dance community for its heart and sense of family and is a dance studio like no other. While it proves to turn out a high standard of competitive dancers, first and foremost it inhabits the philosophy of raising humans before dancers.
Dance Unlimited fosters an incredibly supportive culture focusing on self-growth, respect for others, friendship, and fun. It's truly a community, in every way.
Dance Unlimited has been a part of the Edmonton community for the past 25 years with the current studio owner, Jodi Chalifoux, taking over ownership in the 2018/2019 dance season. Over the course of those years, you can be assured that those dance floors have seen HUNDREDS of tap shoes, pointe shoes, jazz shoes, and even Ukrainian dancing boots travel across their surfaces! When first installed the floors were made of top-of-the-line dance floor materials however, as you can imagine, those floors have now worn down.
To prevent injury and ensure dancer safety, dance studios build ‘sprung’ floors which are then covered in a special type of vinyl roll flooring, called Marley. Where the shock-absorbing, sprung floor provides a safe surface for jumping, the Marley overlay ensures the correct texture and traction required for various types of dance movement (e.g. lifting, turns) and dance footwear (e.g. pointe shoes).
There are three studio spaces in which our children spend countless hours training and practicing for competitions, exams, and performances, with the largest of the three getting the most use. As a result, the Marley flooring in this particular studio space has worn down so much that it has lost all of its traction and no longer provides the required grip for jumping, turning, and lifting.
Unfortunately, the cost to replace the Marley flooring in this space is a little over $10,000, which is why we need your support.
Dance Unlimited is more than a place where our children and their friends dance. For many of our children, it’s a sanctuary, a safe zone, and an escape from the stresses of life. It is home, and all of the DU dancers and teachers are family. The owner, Jodi, and her staff always work hard to make every single dancer feel loved, important, and successful and they are always 110% there for our kids for whatever they need in dance AND more importantly, in life. Please help us give our kids the opportunity to continue dancing on the best materials available.
